Kasit says Democrats worked hard to free Veera and Ratree

Former foreign minister Kasit Piromya insisted his administration did its best to help secure the release of two Thai Patriots Network activists from Prey Sar prison in Phnom Penh.

Mr Kasit was responding to activist Ratree Pipattanapaiboon's claims before the Senate committee on human rights, liberty and consumer protection last Thursday that the previous Democrat government failed to offer proper assistance for securing her release.

Ms Ratree had also criticised the Democrats for failing to counter Cambodian accusations that she was a spy.

Kasit said dems worked hard to free Veera and Ratree, but the two PADs did not get a reduced sentence nor an early release during the AV's tenure!

The Democrats may well have worked hard to gain the release of the 2 prisoners but they failed. In the end it was the PTP that managed to fix the rift and secure the release of one of their arch rivals.

The Dems had an antagonistic foreign policy towards Cambodia spearheaded by PAD based Kasit who personally insulted Cambodia's leader in his speeches. I can't see how that could ever be construed as the Dems doing "its best to help secure the release" of Veera and Ratree.

Foreign policy under the Dems was a disaster. Both Kasit and his legacy will hopefully fade away into oblivion.

DEMS only ever work hard whenever they are doing something that benefits themselves or their business associates ,,ie lining their own pockets

Kasit was never a solution, but a problem itself.

Kasit was nobody until he took the stage of the PAD. Without being nominated by the PAD, Kasit would never be appointed a minister in the AV government. Kasit has been most well-known for his notorious and foolish words and acts, instead of being noted as capable and productive. I believe it was one of the biggest mistakes of both the PAD and the DEM for once associating with Kasit.

The previous Dem-led administration had offered proper assistance for securing Veera and Ratrees' release, as claimed unilaterally by Kasit, but at the same time the then AV's tenure started quarrels and military confrontations with Cambodian government. A contradicting story by Kasit.

"while inspecting land disputed by the two countries near Ban Nong Chan village of Sa Kaeo' s Khok Sung district"

Wow, historical contextualizing seems to grow with time. PADite shenanigans at the border has become official sounding "inspections" and has become a disputatious issue between two countries. Self-aggrandized PADites must love to read that. Neither of those two things is correct. No-body was inspecting anything, and PADites acting out does not rise to the level of International relations. Stating the circumstance as in above quote, was the grandiose objective of the PAD far beyond their political level of consequence.

Who or which government the credit should be awarded to ? Or merely it was happening thank to Sihanouk's funeral or just a coincidence ? But the release was for a reason, I'm sure. What would it be if AV government was in place in Bangkok ? Ratree has mentioned she was just a pawn in the politic check game. I sincerely believe she was right. What is the face value of a few activists versus the burning desire of the democrat government to wage the war against its neighbor? Kasit is weighing in in a weak comment trying to save some face. But obviously the democrat has lost a lot of credit.
