PM urged to review issue of passport

The Ombudsman is urging the prime minister to review the Foreign Ministry's decision to re-issue a passport to deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Raksagecha Chaechai, spokesman of the Office of the Ombudsman, said yesterday the Ombudsman wrote to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra last Tuesday.

It asked her to order the ministry to review the passport decision after the ministry itself failed to do so, despite receiving a written request from the Ombudsman.

This is an example of why Thaksin would like to and tried to get rid of democratic checks and balances and anything that stood between him and absolute power.

Disc. #2 - ".....can anyone give an example of where a country has reissued a passport to one of their citizens who also happens to be a convicted fugitive?

With respect to Thaksin, he is a fugitive only if you buy into the legitimacy of a non-elected coup-based government, and the court system created by it. The PAD-Dem's seeking to legitimize their coup, needed to make it seem less self-serving. Hiding the fact they could not win elections. A coup was their only path to political power. They decided to legitimize it using the Judiciary, and making Thaksin the "mother of all criminals". Fugitive only within an agenized political context.

Looking anywhere else, can anyone give an example of where a country has reissued a passport to one of their citizens who also happens to be a convicted fugitive?

And the "Demonize Thaksin campaign to justify a coup" continues. Referencing all sorts of judicial entities to support this campaign, merely serves to highlight their role in the service of coup perps. Is it any wonder that double standards are rampant in this sphere. The paucity of PADites ever being held to account when compared to that of the UDD/Red Shirts is a disgrace. Not only for its' ever-presence, but its' boldness and obviousness. Who other than coup perps. and their PAD-Dem brethren would push an issue like this. Shows where this Ombudsman fits in the whole scheme of things.
