Experts deride campaign pledges

Governor hopefuls failing on policy front, forum told

Experts on traffic and transport are sceptical about the chances of Bangkok's gridlocked transport system improving, regardless of who wins the March 3 gubernatorial election.

None of the three leading candidates in the race offer any real solutions to traffic and transport problems, the experts told a Bangkok Post special forum.

If any candidate can convince the police to fully enforce the traffic law and the BMA does not forget to regulate the operation of all those motorcycle taxis (with the help of Transport Ministry), then we may see some hope, otherwise it's just an empty promise not worth anything.

Is this about self-aggrandisement and promises? Political power? They are politicians!

The problem is that the bribes have reached the tipping point. Even if the governor are clean everybody beneath him requires 50-60% kick-back. Meaning that there are no money left to finance the job. What happened with all the police station. As long the bribes was in the region of 10% there was still money to carry trough with the order, but no more.

When the Asian comes 2015 Thailand will start to lose competitiveness.

I don't suppose that Pheu Thai candidate Pongsapat Pongcharoen cared to mention the First Car scheme implemented by his masters at the PTP government when he talked about traffic controls.
