Tourism lobby demands safety

Operators say visitors leave Bangkok quickly

The next Bangkok governor should ensure cleanliness and safety, convenience and comfort for visitors, private tourism operators say.

The operators have come up with some ideas for upgrading Bangkok's tourism industry and proposed them Monday to candidates Pongsapat Pongcharoen and Sukhumbhand Paribatra.

All day, and part of the night, I had a "good" thought
about Bangkok but.............. I forgot what it was !

Ooh, now I remember - it, BKK, is 70 miles away.

I don't find 'safety' an issue in Bangkok at all. However, the lack of green spaces and walkable sidewalks most definitely are. When I first arrived in Bangkok 16 years ago, I too couldn't wait to get out of it. However, I've since had the luxury of time to know which areas/scams to avoid.

As long as money remains God here, every inch of available space will be taken up with yet more malls/condos. I recently read a traveler stating 'With the sex industry and billboards Bangkok is fast becoming the armpit of Asia'. And that was written 20 years ago.

Thailand is a big disapointing joke! Dirty, poluted, unprofessional, corrupt, unfriendly and greedy people.
Nothing works properly or is in good condition. No Maintanance and low safety standarts. Terrible Traffic.
Food Quality and Quantities are poor. No improvement at all the past 20 years!

May be someone in Government would like to read theses posts, scams scams and more scams the people in power know what is going on meter fixing, taxis refusing to take you where you want to go or taking you the wrong way, to name just a few I could fill an a 4 sheet of paper with scams. the problem is no one wants to do anything about it because it will upset the people who taking the back handers. I have been in Thailand and for 5 years and in all the pledges that have been made to clean up the scams I have never seen one that has been put into action, it is getting worse instead of better.

Too little, too late. I thought Bangkok was a hellhole when I first went over on a business trip in the 1980s. 95% of the city area are ugly beyond redemption, add congestion, pollution, criminal behaviour by taxi drivers, touts etc. When friends or colleagues visit Bangkok I give them a half hour briefing as how to avoid all the scams and generally stay safe.

Face it, Bangkok & Thailand: You've had your chance and you blew it. Your tourism glory days are over.

That’s right, just focus on the tourists who are so valuable to Thailand. What about the locals who suffer all the same problems every day, and they are the ones who vote? Priorities for locals and expats should include better transport service, massive clean up everywhere and and noise reduction. In addition for tor tourists eliminate scams and double pricing and improve the taxi service. However, with the increasing value of the Baht tourists will be thinking twice about coming here.

"cleanliness and safety, convenience and comfort for visitors"?! What are they trying to do spoil the ambience? If I wanted to be clean, safe, and comfortable, I'd stay home or go to Singapore. Boring!!

Bangkok will look more attractive when its residents stop treating it like a garbage can and clean the space around them .Get rid of the unsightly billboards .Plant some palm trees which grow above the power lines instead of into them .Make room for people to walk on sidewalks .

The first thing a tourist comes into contact with is an Isaan taxi driver. All refuse to use the meter, take people to a jem/clothes shop so they can get a fuel voucher.

So what will be done about these people??
