New city boss summoned to respond to DSI charges

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has summoned Bangkok governor-elect Sukhumbhand Paribatra to report on Thursday to hear a charge of violating the Political Parties Act.

MR Sukhumbhand, Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and 46 other Democrat MPs face the same charge related to salary donations made to the party, said Pol Col Nirand Adulyasak, chief of the DSI's Bureau of Special Crime.

If found guilty, Mr Abhisit, MR Sukhumbhand and the other MPs would be banned from politics for five years, with a possible penalty of up to three years in jail and a fine of at least three times the amount of the donated money.

"If found guilty, AV,Sukhumbhand and the other MPs would be banned from politics for five years"
Whether they are banned from politics or not is of no significance. The dems are already isolated by all other political parties.

Well, that didn't take long, did it?

And I believe the wrongdoings (in direct violation to the constitution) of SP, AV and 46 DEM MPs are a lot more serious than once being a host of a TV cook show by the former prime minister. So we have all the reasons to think and to demand that AV should never again be appointed a PM, while SP should not be allowed to enter the office of the governor.

No big deal at all, because a former PM could be forced out of his office for once being a host for a cook show on TV. Why not a governor faces the music? And the position of the governor is a lot less important, with many good candidates can do a much better job.

"The DSI had taken legal action against hardcore red-shirt protesters. It has filed 213 legal cases against red shirts, including 64 cases of terrorism and sabotage and 62 cases of arson, while 295 people on the UDD side have been arrested and prosecuted." - BangkokPost, 7/12/2012

Surely the DSI has charged members of other parties besides the Democrats, though I can't remember any. Could someone refresh my memory?.

Reading between the lines: Pure political theatre, spurious or not you can't help seeing this for what it is; a relentless attempt by one discredited agency to make some sort of charge 'stick' so that Abhisit and co can all suffer the same fate as Thaksin and his banned cronies. Let the courts decide, no one can possibly take the DSI seriously anymore.
