Chiang Mai backs Yaowapa to run for MP

Supporters of the ruling Pheu Thai Party have thrown their weight behind Yaowapa Wongsawat to run in a by-election after her aide stepped down as a member of parliament for Chiang Mai.

Somnuek Prakobkij, chairman of the village chief and kamnan association in San Kamphaeng district, backed former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's younger sister to contest the poll and showed no doubt of her chances of winning as, he said, she was popular with locals in the district and elsewhere.

Her canvassers were reportedly ready for a campaign to take her to parliament.

@rice. ' He speaks Northern and Isaan, is not afraid to ride around in the mud on a motorbike and most of the time just wears normal cloths....'

A man of the people BS. That is how he conned them, oh and I will make all Thais rich in 6 months. No doubt he does not wear 'normal' clothes in his jet...

Disc 20 - I think that you will find that TS managed to connect with the rural people on a number of levels not just populous policies. He speaks Northern and Isaan, is not afraid to ride around in the mud on a motorbike and most of the time just wears normal cloths that makes him look like everyone else. Is that all to get elected, probably, but if you put Abhisit on that motorbike riding down the same dirt road in his suit and Gucci loafers it would look somehow strangely surrealistic.

RE: D11, Englishbob....maybe you did not notice but the PT did emerge as the alternative party to the old elite Democrats who held power for years and years and were "seen" by the poor as people as a group that did not care about anyone but themselves and who would bow at their feet. The fact is, I do not even like the PT because they have proven to be just as power hungry and crooked as the Democrats were and have been for many years. Only thing special about TS is that he is a better politician (or worse might be a better term as there are no good ones) than the DP was better able to get the people vote for him through populist policies.

None of the dems and any other third party business. This is purely PT party business. Busy bodies always speak gossips.

I should point out the Chiang Mai district 1 (Ampher Muang) has an MP who is about 25 years old, looks 18 and easily won her seat after Peau Thai kicked out their experienced first choice politician to make way (that women then went over to the other party). MP Tassanee Buranapakorn is the niece of Boonlert, the PAO Chairman, former Mayor, and big buddy of the Shinawatras. Her 30 year old brother is the mayor. The incumbent for this seat was Surapong Tovichakchaikul (now Foreign Minister) who is apparently a cousin on Thaksin. That's a little lesson for you all in nepotism.

Rather than whine about who the PTP will run in a by-election, why don't all you Democrat supporters get out there and back your Democrat candidate to defeat the PTP candidate. For better or worse, that's the way the system works.

Disc 12 - "Always blame someone else!." That's the Democrat Mantra.

How about competing for weight watchers presidency ?

Enough nepotism! Being Thaksin's sister is not a qualification in itself.
