Reds rally at Constitution Court

About 200 red-shirts continued their rally in front of the Constitution Court for the third day on Wednesday, demanding the nine court judges cease performing their duties.

They were led by Pongpisit Kongsena, alias Lek Bandon, leader of a group of operators of "radio stations for democracy".

Mr Pongpisit claimed the nine judges lacked the legitimacy to perform their duties. He said they had misused their authority to infringe on judicial and executive matters, causing the government to have problems in its administration of the country and dividing the people.

He said some of the protesters would go to the Budget Bureau today to submit a letter asking it to stop paying salaries to the nine judges.

A campaign would be launched to gather at least 20,000 names to submit a petition asking the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to remove the entire bench of judges.

The red-shirts on Tuesday issued a statement in the name of 13 radio stations for democracy, threatening to lay siege to the Constitution Court from today.

About 150 police were deployed in the area to maintain law and order.

Pol Maj-Gen Parinya Chansuriya, deputy metropolitican police chief, said 150 was enough to keep the situation under control at this time because the red-shirt rally was still small.

The nine judges had not asked for more police protection, he said.
