Da Torpedo loses lese majeste appeal

The Appeals Court on Wednesday upheld a lower court's decision sentencing Daranee Chanchoengsilpakul, alias Da Torpedo, to 15 years in prison for lese majeste.

Ms Daranee, a member of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), was charged with lese majeste under Section 112 of the Criminal Code for making speeches on three occasions at Sanam Luang in June and July 2008 which were deemed insulting to the high institution.

The Criminal Court on Dec 15, 2011 sentenced her to a total of 15 years in prison - five years each for three offences committed in June 7 and 13 and July 18, 2008. The sentences are cumulative.
