The Democrat Party is the political party with the most members in the country, according to the Election Commission (EC).
The information released by the EC on Sunday, recorded on Sept 19, states there are four political parties each with members numbering over 100,000.
They are the Democrat Party with 2.89 million members, Mahachon Party with 1.18 million, Bhumjaithai Party with 153,950 members and Pheu Thai Party with 117,955 members.
It might come as a surpise to some people when they realise the Pheu Thai party has far fewer members than the Democrat Party, Sodsri Sattayatham, EC commissioner, said. But it is common that the oldest party _ the Democrats _ will have more members than the ruling Pheu Thai, which has been established for just two years.
There are 19 small political parties which each have under 5,000 members. These parties must increase the number of members in the next year otherwise they will be dissolved.
