Amnesty protesters gather at Asoke

Traffic on outbound Sukhumvit Road was heavily congested as opponents of the blanket amnesty bill, mostly office workers, converged at Asoke BTS station around noon Thursday.

The Asoke gathering was organised by the Businessmen for Democracy Club, which led similar rallies on Silom Road on Monday and Wednesday.

The group blew whistles for one minute at 12.34pm in a show of defiance against the bill and to promote 'clean democracy'.

Traffic police said many protesters had turned up and the crowd spilled onto the road. They advised motorists to avoid the route.

Motorists approaching from Ratchaprasong intersection had been redirected into Witthayu Road and Petchaburi Road, while those wanting to take the Din Daeng expressway exit towards Ploenchit were urged to take the Rama II and Rama IV road exits instead.
