Army chief denies interference - source

Army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha on Monday denied any there was army intervention in politics leading to the decision of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to dissolve the House, a source close to him said.

The source, regarded as reliable,  quoted Gen Prayuth as saying that Ms Yingluck made the decision herself,   with no influence from the army.

The House dissolution sparked speculation that the prime minister was pressured by the army to end the political unrest after protesters took to the streets against the government.

Gen Prayuth favoured an end of the rallies after the prime minister decided to dissolve the House of Representatives, and wanted all sides to sit down to find a solution to the political impasse, the source added.
