Emergency decree invoked in Bangkok

The caretaker government has decided to invoke emergency law in Bangkok for two months to control ongoing political protests.

The enforcement of the emergency decree will cover all of Bangkok and part of Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan provinces from Wednesday, caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said on Tuesday.

Mr Surapong said the enforcement of the law is necessary to allow the authorities to control the anti-government protest situation and help ensure democratic elections.
