CSD boss quits for poll tilt

Pol Maj Gen Supisarn Bhakdinarinath, commander of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), has resigned from the police force to run in the March 30 Senate election.

Supisarn: Wants a Senate seat

Central Investigation Bureau chief Pol Lt Gen Pongpat Chayaphan said yesterday he had received Pol Maj Gen Supisarn's resignation letter and backed the CSD chief’s decision.

The resignation took effect yesterday, the CIB boss said.

Pol Lt Gen Pongpat said he would not yet appoint a new head of the CSD. Pol Maj Gen Noraboon Naenna, a CIB deputy commissioner, would be acting CSD chief in the meantime.

Pol Maj Gen Supisarn said he had been thinking about going into politics for the past six years and his resignation had nothing to do with any work conflicts.

"Society should support people from various occupations working in the upper house," he said.

Pol Maj Supisarn said he believed his 20 years in the police force and his doctorate in management which he had just received from North Bangkok University would help him do his job as a legislator.

"If I’m elected [as a senator for Bangkok], I will do my best to use my knowledge and experience for the public.”

If he is not elected, he could seek reinstatement in the police force.

Deputy Police Chief Pongsapat Pongcharoen, who resigned to compete in the Bangkok governor election last year, sought reinstatement after losing to MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra.
