Warrant issued for Sasima house shooter

Police have obtained an arrest warrant for the gunman who fired dozens of shots at the house of Khunying Sasima Srivikorn, mother of Taya Teepsuwan, a former core anti-government protest leader.

More than 100 shots were fired at Khunying Sasima’s house in Khao Yai on March 1. No one was hurt.

Investigators obtained a court warrant to arrest an unnamed suspect based on a sketch compiled from witness accounts and other evidence, Nakhon Ratchasima police chief Pongdet Promminjit said.

The suspect has a dark complexion and is about 170cm tall. He is accused of trespassing while armed and illegally owning a gun and ammunition.

Police are also hunting other accomplices who remain at large, Pol Maj Gen Pongdet said.

He said the investigation into the shooting had made a lot of progress and police knew the type of vehicle used in the attack — a white Mitsubishi G-wagon.

The attack on Ms Taya’s mother, and another on her own residence, compelled Ms Taya to “take a break” from politics for her family's safety.

Ms Taya is a former deputy Bangkok governor for the Democrat Party. Her husband, Nattapol Teepsuwan, is still active in the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) anti-government protest.

The attack occurred after Ms Taya and Mr Nathapol blew whistles at Khunying Potjaman na Pombejara, the ex-wife of former premier Thaksin Shinawatra at the Emporium mall in Bangkok's Sukhumvit area last month, causing her to flee.

Meanwhile, Bangkok police yesterday arrested two men in the Nang Loeng area after finding them acting suspiciously.

A search found the men, identified as Prasit Klinkliang, 59, and Namchok Sinheng, 48, carrying loaded .38 and .22 revolvers, a pocket knife, cannabis and a communication radio. The two said they were guards of the Dhamma Army, an ally of the PDRC.
