Bomb lands in Suthep's home again

Police are scouring areas around the home of anti-government leader Suthep Thaugsuban in Bangkok after a third grenade in two weeks was fired into the house on Saturday night.

However, the family did not file a police complaint about the latest M79 attack, its third on Mr Suthep’s house after two dud grenades were fired into the residence on March 10.

The family did not complain to the police about the March 10 incident either. One of the two explosives was found about 30 metres from the fence of the house. The grenade was in bad condition with its head crushed, according to officers inspecting the area.

The second grenade, identified as an M79, had also failed to explode. Mr Suthep said the attack was not a serious worry.

Pol Col Thawat Wongsa-nga, head of Thammasala police, said police inspected the area outside Mr Suthep’s home on Phutthamonthon Sai 2 in Thawi Watthana district yesterday.

Army officers from the 9th Infantry Battalion joined police in the inspection. They could not enter the house because it is private property, Pol Col Thawat said.

The latest grenade was fired at the house at 7.10pm on Saturday, said anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee spokesman Akanat Promphan, Mr Suthep’s stepson, on his Facebook page yesterday.

His mother, Srisakul Promphan, said the grenade landed in the middle of the yard, outside the dining room. Mr Akanat said his family was safe.

Ms Srisakul said on her Facebook page she was in the house when the attack occurred. Despite the violence, she insisted her family was not disheartened and
Mr Suthep would continue to lead the protest.

The house belongs to Ms Srisakul.
