Questions over Yingluck's police aide

Former PM still being escorted by police aide

Somchai Sawaengkarn, a former appointed senator, wants the Royal Thai Police Office (RTPO)to explain why a police officer assigned to escort Yingluck Shinawatra has not been recalled now she is no longer prime minister.

Mr Somchai, in a posting on his Facebook page, said that a picture of Pol Col Wathanyu Vacharaphalothai, assistant duty officer attached to the police chief and assigned as an aide to Ms Yingluck while she was prime minister, had been widely shared in the social media.

The picture showed Ms Yingluck, after losing the prime ministership, shopping at a department store with Pol Col Wathanyu accompanying her as aide as before.

This had drawn wide criticism from people and netizens, the former senator said.

This was contrary to an RTPO order prohibiting its personnel from associating with or joining in activities with politicians, influential persons and others who had been summoned to report to the military's National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) and later released, he added.
