Poll finds majority happy under NCPO

Nearly 90% of respondents surveyed by the Suan Dusit Poll say they feel happier since the National Council for Peace (NCPO) took charge of the country.

Suan Dusit Rajabhat University asked 2,091 people for their reactions to national administration under the NCPO.

The poll was held between Tuesday and Saturday. Of the respondents, 88.5% said they were happier after seeing peace in the country and many problems being solved; 64% said their lives had returned to normal allowing them to go to work and school.

About 93% of respondents said they enjoyed a better atmosphere at home because they were no longer worried about the safety of their family.

In addition, 64.3% said seeing soldiers deployed made them feel safe and 79.4% said they had more time to spend with family members now their school and office hours ended at normal times.

Among workers, 72.5% said making a living was now more convenient.

Among friends, relatives and colleagues, 90.2% of respondents said they were happier, held parties and were no longer concerned about the national situation.

While 84.7% said they listened to others more and had adjusted their stances on people holding beliefs different to their own, 68.4% said they experienced a stronger sense of unity and were more aware of the importance of the national interest.

Meanwhile, the results of a recent survey by the National Institution of Development Administration (Nida) also were revealed yesterday, which found most respondents believed the 12-month timeframe to reform the country as set by the NCPO was suitable.

The poll, conducted between Wednesday and Thursday, found 58.6% of 1,256 respondents agreed with the NCPO's 12-month timeframe for national reforms.

Within this period, the NCPO intends to hold a general election, currently scheduled for October next year.

Of the respondents, 21.3% found the timeframe was too long.

The rest of those surveyed said it was too short.
