The Myanmar government has promised full cooperation in verifying the nationality of Myanmarese workers in Thailand.
Myanmar's Employment Department chief Myo Aung said Myanmar would speed up the verification of its nationals. It had opened verification centres in Myawaddy, Thachilek and Kawthaung districts.
All Myanmar workers would be treated equally regardless of their ethnic group.
There were more than 135 ethnic groups in Myanmar, he told a recent meeting with a Thai delegation to discuss migrant labour management in Bangkok.
Employment Department director-general Sumet Mahosot said preparations for nationality verification after the registration of Myanmar workers had been discussed during the meeting. So far, a total of 203,216 Myanmar workers and their dependants had registered at one-stop service centres.
The department would hold talks with the workers' countries of origin - mainly Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos - to discuss the nationality verification of their workers.
Myanmar had already given a clear answer regarding the matter, said Mr Sumet.
The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has ordered one-stop service centres in Chanthaburi and Sa Kaeo border provinces to continue registering Cambodian migrants until Oct 31, he said.
The department had opened more one-stop service centres in 53 provinces across the country. So far, a total of 492,638 migrant workers and their dependants have registered - 444,097 workers and 48,541 dependants.
A source said the NCPO has extended the registration period of migrant workers from Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia until the end of March next year to allow employers to get their migrant workers to register.
After that, the military would take action against any employers who hire illegal migrant workers.
