NLA asked to quickly get to work

No excuse for delays, says former Pheu Thai MP

A former Pheu Thai MP on Friday urged the National Legislative Assembly to quickly pass the promised permanent constitution and pending legislation, saying the NLA was stacked by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) and there was no excuse for delay.

Somkhid Chuakhong, a former MP for Ubon Ratchathani, was commenting on the NLA's selection of Pornphet Vichitcholchai as the assembly president and Surachai Liengboonlertchai and Phirasak Porchit as vice presidents.

Mr Somkhid said that the NCPO would use the three people to push legislation through the NLA.

Mr Pornphet was an expert in law and the NCPO also carefully chose the two vice presidents.

The army had the people it wanted in place. There was no excuse for delay. The passage of the new constitution and a large number of bills remaining before the parliament could happen quickly.

Mr Somkhid asked the NLA to quickly pass amendment bills on a government pension fund and the social security system that impact millions of government officials and workers in the country.
