NLA members must declare assets

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) on Thursday resolved that the members of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) must report their assets and liabilities and that it would afterwards publish the information.

NACC secretary-general Sansern Poljiak said the move was in response to a request from the senate secretariat.

The NACC based its decision on the organic law on corruption prevention and suppression.

NLA members are therefore required to report their assets and liabilities to the NACC by Sept 7, or 30 days after their swearing-in on Aug 8.

Mr Sansern said the NACC had not yet decided if members of the planned national reform council should also be required to make assets declarations, because the reform council had not been established.

The NACC also resolved to nominate commission member Vicha Mahakhun to the planned national reform council in the field of law and justice systems. It was also proposed Mr Sansern be appointed to the reform council as a specialist member in the political sector.
