His Majesty the King on Saturday granted royal endorsement to the Prayuth Chan-ocha cabinet and it became formal on Sunday when published in the Royal Gazette.
The new cabinet, which comprises 32 members taking up 34 positions, was announced on the website of the Royal Gazette on Sunday, a day after the King approved it.
Twelve of the cabinet members are retired or active military and police officers.
Former defence minister and NCPO adviser Gen Prawit Wongsuwan takes up two positions as deputy prime minister and defence minister.
Outgoing Supreme Commander and NCPO deputy chief Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn doubles as deputy prime minister and foreign minister.
- Editor's opinion: A bad choice for foreign minister
Former army chief Anupong Paojinda, whom Gen Prayuth replaced as army chief in late 2010, takes the interior minister post.
Gen Prayuth, Gen Prawit and Gen Anupong climbed through the ranks of the army together, from junior-level officer to, respectively, commanders of the 2nd Infantry Division (Queen's Guard) based in the eastern province of Prachin Buri, widely known as the Burapha Payak (Tigers of the East) group.
On the economic front, two of the ministers under the 2006 post-coup government are back.
MR Pridiyathorn Devakula, a former deputy prime minister and finance minister, will be a deputy prime minister in the new cabinet. Sommai Pasi, the deputy finance minister in the Surayud Chulanont government, will be in charge of the finance portfolio.
