Former education minister Chaturon Chaisaeng on Monday morning appeared before the Bangkok Military Court to give testimony in his defence against charges filed by military prosecutors.
Mr Chaturon has been charged with defying the National Council for Peace and Order's (NCPO) order for him to report in, defying martial law and inciting unrest in violation of Section 116 of the Criminal Code and breaching the Computer Act of 2007. If found guilty, he would be liable to a total maximum jail term of 14 years.
After testifying to the court, Mr Chaturon was released on 400,000 baht bail on the conditions he must not travel abroad without the court's permission, must not take part in a political rally or express opinions in a way that may stir disobedience among the people.
Earlier today, a group of supporters gathered in front of the court to give moral support to Mr Chaturon, who was accompanied by his lawyer Narinpong Jinapak and younger sister Thitima Chaisaeng, on his arrival.
