Letter on PM's secret account 'fake'

A document supposedly issued by the National Council for Peace and Order ordering two local private banks not to disclose bank-account information of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha and his brother was fake, a NCPO spokesman said on Monday.

The document circulating on the internet falsely claimed that Gen Prayuth and his brother and Third Army chief Lt Gen Preecha Chan-ocha had jointly opened two special saving accounts, one at Bangkok Bank and another Siam Commercial Bank, with deposits worth around 10-20 billion baht. The document and the figures were forged, Col Winthai Suvaree said.

The document ordered executives of the two banks to treat the information as "highly classified."

Col Winthai warned members of the public not to believe the document and urged the ill-intentioned person behind the counterfeit NCPO order to stop breaking the law or face legal punishment.
