The government and the National Council for Peace and Order will continue to work together to tackled problems left unsolved by past governments, Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Tuesday.
The two bodies had their first joint meeting at the army club on Vibhavadi Rangsit road on Tuesday.
High on their to-do list is corruption, which will be tackled simultanously with effective law enforcement, he said.
On national security, Gen Prayut said he could not disclose publicly underground activities against the government and NCPO.
But he said martial law was still necessary and would continue to be in force.
The majority of people are not affected by it because the situation before May 22 and now is different, he said.
Gen Prayut asked the public not to criticise the National Reform Council now but to wait and see how it performs.
The prime minister said he could evaluate the government's work by himself but would rather let the people do it. What the government needs is sympathy and moral support, he said.
Gen Prayut also asked the media to stop criticising the government on every issue and discouraging it to the extent it could not solve any problem.
