Prem mum on advice he gave PM

Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda said on Thursday he had given a lot of advice to Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha on how to be prime minister, but would not say what that advice was.

The 94-year-old statesman toyed with reporters over his relationship with the junta leader, refusing to evaluate the former army chief's performance or what they spoke about when Gen Prayut and four armed-service chiefs called on him on Sept 30.

What few remarks Gen Prem made came after reporters asked him if he would have any advice for Gen Prayuth about administering the country, as he had previously served two terms as prime minister.

The statesman said he had nothing else to say about the advice he gave to Gen Prayut. He also declined to comment if Gen Prayuth had done well as premier.

The prime minister and military bosses visited Gen Prem at his Si Sao Thewes home to mark Gen Prayut's retirement as army chief at the end of September. The Privy Council president said he gave them his blessing and thanked them for a job well done.

Asked to comment on the current situation in the country, he said only that he wanted to give moral support to Gen Prayut and all Thais to help maintain peace and order in the kingdom.

The Privy Council president was answering questions after presiding over the opening of the 22nd San Jai Thai Su Jai Tai (Uniting Thai Hearts for the South) project for youth in the lower South at the Army Club in Thewes.
