Jatuporn case dismissal upheld

The Appeals Court today upheld the Criminal Court's decision to dismiss a defamation suit filed by a former senator against red-shirt leader Jatuporn Prompan.

Rossana Tositrakul sued Mr Jatuporn, leader in the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, after he accused her in an Aug 29, 2010 interview of trying to push for the Department of Special Investigation to handle the case against People's Alliance for Democracy protesters who seized Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports in 2008.

She claimed Mr Jatuporn made a false accusation aimed at damaging her reputation.

The Criminal Court dismissed the case on the ground that Mr Jatuporn had only expressed his opinion with no intention of damaging Ms Rossana.

Ms Rossama forwarded the case of the Appeals Court. The Appeals Court today upheld the lower court's decision.
