Ex-official told to hand over B68m

The Supreme Court has ordered that a former official of the Prime Minister's Secretariat hand over assets worth more than 68 million baht to the country after convicting her for being unusually rich.

Natthakamon Nonthachot, who used to be an assistant to former deputy prime minister Pol Gen Chitchai Wannasathit under the Thaksin Shinawatra administration, was accused of wrongdoing by the National Anti-Corruption Commission. Some assets were given to her by her father, Gen Samrit Nonthachot, former adviser to ex-defence minister Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyudh.

Gen Chavalit gave him the money to spend on various projects worth 40 million baht, according to prosecutors. Ms Natthakamon denied the accusation and asked the court to drop the case, citing the revocation of the 2007 constitution, but her attempt failed.
