NZ urged to probe Tang Acheewa

The Foreign Ministry will ask New Zealand about the progress of an inquiry into the status of Ekaphop Luera, better known as Tang Acheewa, a red-shirt suspect wanted on lese majeste charges.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Sek Wannamethee said the ministry has asked the New Zealand embassy to investigate after Mr Ekaphop in early December posted on Facebook that he was taking refuge in New Zealand and held a New Zealand passport.

He said the ministry has voiced its concerns with New Zealand authorities because Mr Ekaphop is exploiting his status granted by the New Zealand government to carry out political activities affecting national security.

Mr Ekaphop is believed to have fled the country following the May 22 coup.
