Yingluck indictment set for Feb 19

Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra is required to report to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) on Feb 19 for formal indictment and then arraignment in the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions for indictment over her former government's rice-pledging scheme, National Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Panthep Klanarongran said on Tuesday.

Mr Panthep said the NACC secretary-general had sent a letter to Ms Yingluck, asking her to report to the OAG on Feb 19 at 10am.

The NACC filed a lawsuit with the OAG accusing Ms Yingluck of neglect of duty in not exercising her power  as prime minister to stop the loss-ridden rice-pledging programme after it was found to be plagued with irregularities.

Asked about the criminal lawsuit against former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyapirom and others found by the NACC to have transgressed in connection with unlawful government-to-government rice deals, Mr Panthep said all NACC members had signed in support of it.

NACC officials were coordinating with the OAG, and the lawsuit would be forwarded to the prosecutors for further consideration, he said.

Mr Panthep said he expected the case file would be submitted to the OAG next week.
