Yingluck's lawyer petitions OAG

Norrawit Lalaeng, a lawyer for former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra, on Thursday submitted a petition to the Office of the Attorney General asking that prosectors review the decision to indict his client over the rice scheme.

The petition letter was received by Kittinant Thatpramuk, deputy director-general of the OAG's Investigation Office.

Mr Norrawit said the petition asks the OAG to reconsider its decision to indict Ms Yingluck.

The OAG was also requested to further investigate three points regarding the rice-pledging case.

A joint committee of the OAG and the National Anti-Corruption Commission found that the inquiries into three points in the case were not yet complete, but the NACC had not made additional inquiries as asked by the committee, according to the lawyer's petition.

On reports that the OAG planned to formally indict Ms Yingluck in the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions on Feb 19, Mr Norrawit said that under the law the defendant is not required to appear before the court for a formal indictment.

It was not yet known whether Ms Yingluck would be present at the court on that day, he said.

Mr Norrawit also affirmed as groundless earlier speculation that Ms Yingluck would seek political asylum in a foreign country. Her legal team had not  discussed this  matter, he said.

He personally believed the rumour was started by opponents of the former prime minister.  Moreover, the prosecutors had never said she could not travel abroad, Mr Norrawit added.
