Regime to issue more summonses

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) says it needs to further adjust the attitudes of some people who still do not understand its stance by summoning them for talks.

Private talks between the NCPO and people, especially those with different political views, have been carried out since the May 22 coup last year as a way to explain the reasons behind its need to topple the Yingluck Shinawatra government and what the military regime is doing on the path toward democracy.

"We have to keep on doing our jobs," NCPO secretary-general and Deputy Defence Minister Udomdej Sitabutr told reporters yesterday when asked to respond to posts on the internet opposing the military regime.

Gen Udomdej, who is also army chief, said he has asked 1st Army chef Lt Gen Kampanat Rutdit to look into the issue and to continue talking with those who still query the NCPO’s position.

Recently, the NCPO has also organised talks with foreign military attaches to clarify why it still needs to summon politicians and activists for "attitude adjustment" sessions.
