Poll: Court should decide on Yingluck

Most people are of the opinion that former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra's request to travel abroad should be decided by the court, according to a poll carried out the National Institute for Development Administration, or Nida Poll.

The poll was conducted on 1,252 people throughout the country on Feb 12-13 to gather their opinion on "Yingluck Shinawatra's request for permission from the National Council for Peace and Order to travel abroad".

Asked what they thought about Ms Yingluck's request, 47.68% of respondents said the request should be decided by the court; 25.3% said the NCPO should not let her go until the court has finished with the rice case filed against her, otherwise she might seek a political asylum and not return; 23.16% said the NCPO should let her go as it was an individual's right to travel; and 3.83% had no comment.

Asked what would happen should Ms Yingluck be allowed to travel abroad, most or 35.22% believed she would return; 32.75% said she would not return; 14.46% believed she would return but not by a date set for her to do so; 2.26% said she would not travel overseas at all; and 14.95% were not certain or had no comment.
