The four activists who were taken into police custody on Saturday afternoon for organising a mock election in front of the Bangkok Arts & Culture Centre on Rama 1 road were released on Sunday morning, reports said.

The activists of the "Resistance Citizens" group staged a mock election in front of the centre to remember the Feb 2, 2014 election which was nullified, drawing the attention of about 300 people.

The four were Siravich Sereethiwat, a fourth-year political science student of Thammasat University, Wannakiat Chusuwan, a taxi driver, Anon Nampa, a lawyer of the Centre of Lawyers for Human Rights, and Pansak Srithep, whose son was shot dead in the 2010 crackdown on red-shirt protesters.

They were taken to Phayathai police station for questioning and charged with violating the National Council for Peace and Order's order prohibiting an assembly of more than five people.

On Sunday at 2.55am they were released on bail. Mr Anan used his position as a lawyer as collateral for bail. Mr Pansak and Mr Wannakiat were each freed on 20,000 baht bail. Mr Siravich was required to place a surety worth 40,000 baht since he had broken an earlier condition for him not to take part in political gatherings.

The four were requred to report to police on March 16.
