Police arrested Pansak Srithep, of the self-styled "Resistant Citizen" anti-coup group, in Nonthaburi early Thursday, ahead of his planned "march for justice" this morning.

Mr Pansak, 48, was appehended by police from the Metropolitan Police Bureau's Crime  Investigation  Division after parking his car at Wat La Harn in Bang Bua Thong district, adjacent to his home, about 12.30am. He was taken to Chana Songkhram police station.

He was wanted on three charges on an arrest warrant issued by Bangkok Military Court on March 17 for organising a march from Soi Rang Nam to Thammasat University's Tha Phra Chan campus two days earlier.

The three charges are: inciting unrest in violation of Section 116 of the Criminal Code, breaching Section 14 (3) of the Computer Crimes Act and defying the National Council for Peace and Order's directive prohibiting assembly of more than five people.

Police questioned Mr Pansak, the father of a teenager shot dead on May 15, 2010 at Ratchaprarop during the red-shirt protests, and took his fingerprints before taking him to Bangkok Military Court at 10am to seek permission to detain him further for legal proceedings. Police opposed a request for bail, and the court was considering the matter.

MPB commissioner Sriwara Rangsiphramanakul reportedly went to Chana Songkhram police station to question Mr Pansak himself.

The activist was briefly detained without being charged on March 14 in Nonthaburi after embarking on a  protest march against the trias of civilians in the military court.

He planned to walk from his home this morning to the military court and then surrender to police to answer the arrest warrant on Friday, but police apprehended him first.
