Yingluck, son visit Nakhon Phanom

A large number of people turned up at Nakhon Phanom airport on Tuesday morning to greet former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra who arrived in the northeastern province with her son for a visit.

She was welcomed on her arrival at the airport by former deputy prime minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisarn and a number of former Pheu Thai MPs.

Ms Yingluck and her son, Supasek Amornchat, were mobbed by Pheu Thai supporters for pictures and autographs.

Earlier, there had been reports on the social media that Ms Yingluck would visit Nakhon Phanom, a former bastion of the Pheu Thai party, to see the progress of development projects initiated during the Thaksin Shinawatra administration.

Paijit Sriworakhan, a former Pheu Thai MP for Nakhon Phanom and key party member in the upper Northeast, confirmed yesterday that Ms Yingluck would arrive in the province to pay respect to Phra That Phanom Pagoda and visit the ethnic Phu Thai people.

She had no political agenda, he said, and would not visit any government-related projects because she did not want to make her presence in the province a political issue.
