Anarchy symbol sprayed on Criminal Court sign

Anarchy symbol sprayed on Criminal Court sign

Police are looking for the people responsible for spray painting a symbol of anarchy on the sign for the Criminal Court and the Office of the Courts of Justice on Ratchadapisek Road on Sunday morning.

Phahon Yothin police and soldiers from the 11th Infantry Regiment went to the Criminal Court building to examine the sign after being told that someone had sprayed the anarchy symbol on it. The symbol is the letter "A" in a circle, in black. It was sprayed on two spots -- before and after the words "Criminal Court".

Paithoon Khunkhim, chief security guard at the Criminal Court, said he reported the incident to the Office of the Courts of Justice before erasing the spray-painted symbol.

Bovornsak Tawipat, the spokesman of the Office of the Courts of Justice, said he then told Phahon Yothin police.

He said the Criminal Court would decide whether the act of vandalism could be regarded as contempt of court or a political expression.

The footage of surveillance cameras in front of the Criminal Court would be examined to look for the culprits, Mr Bovornsak said.

The symbol is reportedly similar to a symbol of fighting which appeared in the feature film "Captain America".
