Former House speaker Panja dies at 84

Panja Kesornthong, a former speaker of the House of Representatives, died late on Sunday night at his home in Bangkok after long illness at the age of 84.

Born on Aug 5, 1931 in tambon Tha Phon in Muang district of Phetchabun, Panya was an 11-time MP representing the province.

He was a deputy leader of the Chart Thai Party and speaker of the House of Representatives between 1988-1991.

His other political positions included Prime Minister's Office minister, deputy prime minister and education minister.

He played an important role in the establishment of the Phetchabun Physical Education College in 1971.

He was married to Mrs Kobkaew and had two sons and three daughters.

His body will be moved to Phetchabun province for the funeral.
