The unconditional release of the 14 New Democracy Movement students will help generate an atmosphere for reconciliation, acting Pheu Thai secretary-general Phumtham Vechayachai said on Tuesday.
He said this would lead to the students' movement being recognised as a spontaneous force, without backing from any political groups as alleged.
The release of the 14 students by a military court also demonstrated the government's intention to solve problems and not to create any unfavourable conditions, he added.
Mr Phumtham said the situation would be much more improved if the government took for consideration the students' demands and suggestions.
