Prawit celebrates 70th birthday

Senior members of the armed services were among visitors to the residence of Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon inside the 1st Infantry Regiment compound on Monday to wish him a happy birthday.

Gen Prawit turns 70 on Tuesday, Aug 11.

The visitors included cabinet members, senior military and police officers and high-level civil servants and  began to arrive at the 1st Infantry Regiment on Si Ayutthaya Road in Dusit district as early as 7am.

Gen Prawit, who has been on sick leave for three weeks following a fall, told reporters after a religious rite that he had recovered and would return to work on Tuesday.  He said he was still going well and strong.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said Gen Prawit had been his mentor and a respected commander who had given him advice from the time they were in the army together up until the present.

"We have respect for and honour each other," Gen Prayut said.

Gen Prawit, in his speech, called for all in attendance to give Gen Prayut a helping hand.

Fellow members of Class 6 of the pre-cadet school and commanding officers from the powerful 2nd Infantry Division and 1st Infantry Division were also present in full force at Gen Prawit's residence.
