Most people optimistic about new cabinet

Most people believe that with the latest cabinet reshuffle the government under Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will be more effective in its performance, according to Suan Dusit Poll.

The survey by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University was conducted between Aug 20 and 22 on 1,247 people throughout the country to gauge public opinion on the recent reshuffle of the Prayut cabinet which saw a new team of economic ministers led by Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak.

Asked whether they think the reshuffle will help improve the government's performance, 61.47% of the respondents believe the government will perform more effectively with a new team of economic ministers in place. However, 34.48% did not expect to see any improvement, while 4.05% believed it would be a wast of time and money because the Thai economy was affected by the global economy.

Asked what they think generally about the reshuffle, 73.70% said it would strengthen the government's stability; 69.21% said it was a major reshuffle, as expected; 67.04% hoped it would help the country's economy, tourism and exports; 66.24% believed it would help improve Thailand's image in the eyes of other countries; and, 62.55% said the new cabinet was still dominated by the military.
