The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has decided Gen Preecha Chan-o-cha correctly declared his assets when he became member of the National Legislative Assembly last year.

Back then, local media questioned the discrepancies of his assets declaration since his total assets were less than what was shown on the assets list.

Gen Preecha is Prime Minister Prayut's brother and is now permanent secretary of the Defence Ministry. He was commander of the Third Army Region at the time.

In his file, Gen Preecha declared he had 42.05 million baht in bank deposits but disclosed 10 deposit accounts totalling 89.42 million baht.

Five of them were savings accounts with commercial banks totalling 42.05 million baht under his own name.

The other five worth 46.99 million baht were accounts under his wife's name with the savings cooperative of the Third Army Region.

The five accounts under his wife's name were not listed as his wife's assets and not included in the couple's total assets but declared in their assets list.

He explained later in declaring the assets he also listed his unit's funds he was authorised to withdraw. But since it was not his own money, he did not include it in the calculation of his assets.

NACC secretary general Sansern Poljiak said on Tuesday the NACC had decided Gen Preecha had not intentionally submitted false asset lists or tried to conceal facts. Investigations into the accounts also showed they really existed.

The NACC offered no explanations whether it was legitimate to deposit a state unit's funds into a personal account.
