Most want to cast one ballot: Poll

A majority of people want to cast only one ballot to vote for constituency and party list MPs as proposed by the Constitution Drafting Committee headed by Meechai Ruchupan, according to the result of a Suan Dusit Poll survey.

The poll was conducted on 1,156 people throughout the country between Nov 2 and 7 to gauge their opinions on the proposed mixed-member apportionment (MMA) electoral system under which a single ballot would be used for both constituency and party-list MPs.

A majority, 60.98%, of the respondents said they wanted to cast only one ballot because it is easy to understand and the votes can be easily counted.

The rest, or 39.02%, said they wanted to cast two ballots to separately vote for an MP in a constituency and for the party they like.

Asked about the CDC's proposal to have 500 MPs comprising 350 from the constituencies and 150 from the party list system, 79.06% agreed to it while 20.94% disagreed, saying the ratio should be reviewed.
