The Criminal Court will pass judgement on March 3 on alleged "popcorn" gunman Vivat Yodprasert, accused of shooting four pro-government supporters at Laksi intersection during a demonstration there on the eve of the Feb 2, 2014 elections.

The shooting occurred while protesters of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) were laying siege to a polling unit near the Laksi district office, intending to prevent the election being held.

Pro-Yingluck Shinawatra government residents put up resistance, and it is alleged Mr Vivat used a gun partly concealed inside a popcorn bag, to catch the bullet casings, to fire at the government supporters, seriously wounding four people - Somboon Sakthong, Akaew Sae Liew, Nakarin Utsaha and Payont Kongprang.

Akaew died later in September

Mr Vivat was arrested in March at a local market in Surat Thani.

He was charged with murder, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, carrying weapons and ammunition in public without permission, and violation of the emergency decree prohibiting the carrying of a weapon outside his own residence. He entered pleas of not guilty.

Mr Vivat was taken from the Bangkok Remand Prison, where he is being held, to the Criminal Court on Tuesday, when the last two witnesses testified in his trial. They were Niran Pithakvachira, a former member of the National Human Rights Commission, and Suchart Srisang, a former Democrat MP and PDRC core member.

After hearing the two witnesses, the court scheduled March 3 for delivery of its judgement.
