Prawit confident constitution will pass referendum

Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon believes the draft charter will be approved in the public referendum, saying the new charter is aimed at effectively preventing corruption.

Gen Prawit, who also is deputy prime minister, said the ministry has forwarded its feedback on the draft to Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam and the National Council for Peace and Order for consideration.

He believed the Constitution Drafting Committee will make necessary changes to make the overall draft look the best, although it might not satisfy everyone.

Gen Prawit declined to reveal the suggestions submitted by the Defence Ministry. He only comment was that the provision on the authority and duties of the armed forces already was clear and needed no alteration.

"I believe (the constitution) will pass the referendum.  Why? There are not many flaws in it. It's hard to get a constitution that can effectively prevent corruption," he said.
