Prayut leaves for US-Asean summit

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and several senior officials left for the United States on Sunday morning to attend the US-Asean Leaders Summit on Feb 14 to 18 at the Sunnylands Centre in Rancho Mirage, California.

Among the officials were Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn and PM's secretary-general Gen Wilas Aroonsri.

The summit follows the official launch of the Asean Economic Community in late 2015.

US President Barack Obama invited leaders of Asean leaders to attend the special summit.

Observers said the convening of a first-ever standalone meeting with Southeast Asian leaders in the United States is another indication of the Obama administration’s commitment to Southeast Asia.
