The junta has released Watana Muangsook, a Pheu Thai party executive, after detaining him on Monday for an attitude adjustment session.

The former social development and human security minister wrote on Facebook: "At 12.30pm on Thursday, I was released from the 11th Military Circle after being detained for 73 hours. I have personal business to attend to today but I'll continue to express political opinions tomorrow."

Mr Watana criticised the National Council for Peace and Order's detention of Worachai Hema on Sunday. On the same day, military officers visited Mr Watana's house but they did not meet him. The soldiers ordered him to report himself to the 11th Military Circle on the next day.

NCPO spokesman Col Winthai Suwaree said on Monday Mr Watana regularly expressed his opinions on social media.

"It's obvious he has a personal grudge against the NCPO and may have lost benefits because of what the NCPO has done. Society is well aware of this and gives him no credit"

Mr Watana's claim that soldiers came to his house in four trucks to take him away on Sunday. They ordered his household members to open the gate or they would use Section 44 to arrest everyone. Mr Watana was not home at the time and told them he would report himself at 11am on Monday.

However, Mr Watana claimed the officers continued to surround his house and patrol the housing estate where his house is located all night, forcing him to stay overnight at a friend's house.

Col Winthai defended the soldiers' actions.

"We insist the officers had done their duty within an appropriate framework suitable for the situation. We believe they did not threaten anyone as we are aware this could be used against us later."
