Activists handed out booklets criticising the draft constitution at a meeting in Bangkok held to drum up support for the draft constitution on Wednesday.

New Democracy Movement activist Pakorn Areekul led other members to the Miracle Grand Hotel to hand out booklets disputing the draft. The hotel was the site for a meeting of trainers picked to publicise the draft among voters before the referendum on Aug 7.

The two-day session was organised by the Constitution Drafting Committee and the Interior Ministry to train officials from eight central provinces on the draft after it was finished.

A copy of the booklet was also handed to CDC chairman Meechai Ruchuphan as he was walking to the conference room.

The chief draft writer did not make any reaction and continued into the room.

Mr Pakorn said the attendants should be given a chance to learn the other side of the draft and relay its concern to voters. The meeting was not disrupted as the movement members stayed only 20 minutes and left the hotel.

Mr Meechai said after the meeting voters should not jump to a conclusion that they will shoot down the draft in the referendum until they thoroughly read it.
