Three men dressed as monks were detained on South Pattaya Road as they were receiving alms from passersby. Police suspected that they were not genuine monks because they could not identify which temple they were affiliated with, yet claimed they were collecting cash to repair a temple.  One of the men, Jaroon, said that he needed to use the toilet at the nearby Chaimongkol temple, and then fled, leaving behind his robe and alms bowl. The other two men were released with a warning to refrain from begging.
