Thailand and China declared a success their navy drills wrapped up on Tuesday in Chanthaburi province.

After almost two weeks, the Thai and Chinese navies ended their joint Blue Strike 2016 exercise at a training ground of the Royal Thai Navy in Khao Kitchakut district.

Royal Thai Fleet commander Adm Naris Prathumsuwan and Rear Adm Wang Hai, deputy commander of the People's Liberation Army Navy, said at the closing ceremony that the drills had achieved their goals of exchanging the experiences and increasing the capabilities of the two navies.

They hoped that the two countries would have a chance for future drills.

The exercise this year was the third after Thailand held the first drills in 2010 and China took turn hosting them in 2012.

The Blue Strike 2016 was launched on May 21 at the Sattahip naval base in Chon Buri's Sattahip district.

The two countries deployed more than 500 marine troops in sea and land operations.

The armaments and equipment include helicopters, rocket launchers, 122-milimetre Howitzer-equipped tanks, an amphibious transport dock, inflatable boats, speedboats, and a range of guns and other hardware.
