Thai-US military exercise begins tomorrow

A joint military exercise of the Thai and United States armies, codenamed Hanuman Guardian 2016, will be held from June 27 to July 8 in Saraburi and Lop Buri provinces, army deputy spokeswoman Col Sirichan Ngathong said on Sunday.

Col Sirichan said the joint exercise signifies good relations and cooperation between the Thai and US armies.

The exercise is intended for the two armies to exchange experiences in tactical operations with emphasis on maintenance of security, disaster relief and peace-keeping.

To be included in the joint exercise are search and rescue operations, a medical seminar, medical training, military dog training, and engineering.

Col Sirichan said 748 Thai army personnel will take part in the exercise. They are from the Special Warfare Command, 1st Cavalty Division, 2nd Cavalry Division, Army Medical Department, and Army Aviation Centre.

Joining the exercise from the US side are  429 soldiers of the US Army Pacific (USARPAC).

The opening of the exercise, chaired by Lt Gen Thakolkiat Nualyong, chief of the Army Training Command Department, will be held on Monday, June 27, at the Cavalry Centre in Saraburi province.
